Transitions

So here are my ideas with my transitions. They all have lack of color, focus on quick camera movements and different textures depending on the matte that I have used. It is hard to see the quick movement in a style frame but I did what I could. The bottom image is the original image used, so that you could see the changes within my frames. I want, quick movement, fast blurs, strong light usage, and intense audio to enhance every transition. Lemme know what yall think

Which direction to go with your frames

Ryan and I went over every one's frames and picked out the things that we thought were working or not working towards our brand. We can cover the details in class tomorrow but just so you all know what direction to go with the design styles you've been working on, this is what we came up with:

Textures: Jeremy's and Ryan's frames show good texture

Composition: James' frames show good cropping. See Ryan's post about style

Color: Use color only as an accent and use only brand colors (e.g. red & green, green & yellow, red & blue...) These all need to come from the same brand so color treatment would be an easy way to get that done.

Vector: Ron's and My frames show good vector treatment.

Here's an exploration of how we can bring all of these styles together (please comment):

Style Decided Upon

Alright guys,

After talking with most of you (sorry Ron) I think we can safely come up with a specific style that will maintain consistency across the entire project. The specifications for each piece are as follows:

The name of our network is TWITCH. The font is NoweAteny and I can give it to everyone tomorrow or via email if you would like it sooner. Feel free to use placeholder text in any of your style frames/boards so it can be an easy transition in order to complete everything for tomorrow. The secondary font is Electra LT, which I can also provide for everyone. I think it would be good to maintain our Network font at 72pt and our secondary font at 48pt.

As far as style goes, I believe it would be best to adopt an illustrative/photographic style that is heavily imagery based, black and white almost exclusively, utilizing a good amount of noise or vectorized grunge, and is very SUGGESTIVE in its content, so as to allow each individual to manifest fear based upon their personal impression of what is going on. Ideally, I would like to see excruciatingly long pans across eery landscapes, with little to no definable subject matter. This means that I don't think it should be, nor would it be preferable, to have a lot of shots with figures/subjects/humans as a primary focus. This is not to say that it wouldn't be great to use a human silhouette as an ACCENT for instance, just not the primary focus. Additionally, if any human subject matter is to be explored visually, please use selective and very tight cropping in order to strip the identity from the imagery. The more we provide an open-ended narrative for the client, and the less we tie the strings ourselves, the scarier our content can become. Provided below is a style frame that represents many of the style points as stated here.

Let's try to capitalize on really solid framing and shooting for the project, paying close attention to the rule of 3rds, asymmetry for placement, etc. The frame above displays a figure, but she is draped in shadow, and perhaps only travels across the frame for an instant.

30 spot

Here is where I am at for my 30 spot thus far; no specific text in the frames as of now, mainly because I haven't completely decided on how I want to integrate it into the frames.

some styleframes

I made a few variations of blood spatter style frames. I like Twitch for a name, so I used it in my style frame doodles. I found some blood spatter brushes and kinda went a little nuts with them...I think they'll look better with Ryan's font.

So this is my style frame for the "coming up next" idea we were talking about. The blurs on the text and person in the background would be real quick. I keep the face close cropped like we talked about and distorted it to prevent to much recognizable features. Keep to one color, the traditional "scary" red.
-Ryan and Andy love the Flinch idea for the name, im still workin on decent logos but progess is being made.
Let me know what your guys think.

These are my ideas for lower 3rds with some vector styling. What do y'all think?

"Twitch Network" v.2

This is my last NEtwork ID Mod.

Logo Ideas

As far as names go. I think that Ryan's idea is good: "Flinch" it could also be "Twitch". Some of the other name ideas I had were:

  • Filament
  • Scream Vault
  • Rusty Nail
  • Body Bag
Here's a couple logo explorations:

Style Frame

Here is some initial thoughts for our style aesthetic, capitalizing on blur, close crops, and abstraction to generate fear in our brand.

I incorporated some grunge to dirty the photo up a bit, and I played around with a bunch of font selections and came up with a couple ideas.

Furthermore, I think it would be cool to name our company "flinch" or "flinch.tv" It plays well as a synonym/action associated with fear, and could be used as a great name in referencing our crazy jump cuts and eery footage. Let me know what you all think.

I may be posting some more stuff later today or tomorrow.

Andy, I found a few really good soundtracks for you to potentially play around with. I'll give them to you on tuesday.

Additionally, I found a sweet ass old text book on surgery of the brain. It contains a lot of diagrams which could be used in a motion piece. Win win.

yo..

Hope ever one is nice and hungover or whatever.

I am working on my 6 frame network spot. If you don't like this first spot I have another I will throw up in a few hours.

Andy, Ryan, group...give me a shout and let me know what I need to change and all that. Andy, I may have a ? or 2 for you this weekend again Thanks for call last night.

Network Style Frames

Hey all,

I am working on the Network style frames and they are looking good and I think would be a good start for a launching pad. I am working on changing my style with lots of research
Andy, Ryan...call me 3/303-356-9173. Please let me show you what I have got, I've we need to pow wow or whatever, cool. Please, let me show you my frames and then you guys make your decisions and I'll do whatever.

I have to go babysit for 2 hours but will be back working on this this afternoon.

Thanks,

James

stle posts coming up

Hey Team...
I am putting together my PDF. I am assuming you are all (or most of you) are sleeping something off this morning.

Please consider some of these styles for the project. I think they are good for the quick network spots and for show openings as well.

This is what I am doing today so we can be ready for Tues. If you want to have a pw-wow at my place or somewhere this weekend, I am game.

The First Step

The Basic Idea
Each person in our group would be responsible for shooting two horror-style scenes that focus on suspense and dramatic lighting rather than action and special effects. These clips will be used with vector elements, mattes, type, and sound that will all follow the aesthetic that we decide on. Look at the posted references to get some ideas for which way to go. On Thursday we should define colors, textures, moods, tempo... you know, stuff like that. Also post any other videos or like that would be helpful in choosing a solid direction.

Sound will be a dominant factor. We can each find sound effects that go with our clips.

For now we just need to decide what the look and feel will be. We each have a specific element to focus on so at the least be prepared to share an idea or two about that element. It would be best if we have imagery, sketches, or videos to reference.

Assigned Elements
Andy – Audio/Project Direction
Ryan – Type/Art Direction
Ron – 3D/Modeling
Jeremy – Transitions/Mattes/Illustrative Styles
James – Illustrative Styles/Editing/Logo
